It may be the debut album from Sylvan Esso, but it's not the first time around the block for the principles. Amelia Meath was previously one of the Mountain Men folkies, while Nick Sanborn walked this beat with Megafaun. Their work as Sylvan Esso benefits from the duo's prior experiences, but it's also in a much different league than either previous iteration. Sylvan Esso produce warm, infectious, silky grooves that thump, throb and thrum with downright giddy glee. While any bout of deconstruction produces a list of the usual suspects (tUnE-yArDs, Dirty Projectors, David Byrne) are the scribbles in the margins after listening to Hey Mami ), Meath and Sanborn still trump such comparisons with seemingly casual and indecent ease. As Dreamy Bruises, Play It Right and Coffee unfold and coax a smile from the listener, you're slowly bedazzled by an album of rich, sweet, vital sounds. twitter.com/sylvanesso Download: Hey Mami, Dreamy Bruises
