In keeping with the chosen name of the record label, there is a hands-on, craftsmanlike quality to Attenborough, the debut album from the combined talents of Irish songwriter Carol Keogh and composer/producer Dunk Murphy.
Each has served in superlative bands – Keogh in Plague Monkeys, Murphy in Ambulance – and their inaugural work brings together elements of their applied experiences, as well as something vibrantly new.
The blend of Keogh’s voice and song writing and Murphy’s soundscaping is the key ingredient here.
A peach of a semi-instrumental track such as The Likelihood of a Violent Death, and spectral songs such as Winter Bee sail along with Murphy's serene/serrated music in the background.
It amounts to a masterclass in texture and tone.
