Soul belter Spanky Wilson is probably best known for her raucous and much remixed take on Cream's Sunshine of Your Love, but she has also played a blinder when it comes to finding recording mates and collaborators over the years. This time out new funkateer Will Holland and the Quantic Soul Orchestra are Wilson's foils on a feel-good barrage of dancefloor grooves. Wilson and Holland have form when it comes to collaborations (see last year's Mishaps Happening hook-up), but this session sees the musicians experimenting with rawer, deeper, harder funk. It works best when Wilson's soulful purr leads the orchestra (see the title track and especially the thrills which push Don't Joke with a Hungry Man onwards) rather than those occasions when the Orchestra decide to show off their chops by snapping at her heels. www.spanky-wilson.com
