JENNY WILSON
Let My Shoes Lead Me Forward Rabid Records ****
Find of the week? Wilson is a Swedish singer who blends Annie-type pop with Knife-edge electronica on this unstoppable tune about getting up and getting on with it. Let your shoes lead you straight to the record store.
COLM LYNCH
Lucinda Xcentury/Universal ***
Colm channels Mic Christopher's ragged soul in this rollickin' tune about a girl who's not as cool as she thinks she is. Lucinda happens to be my favourite girl's name, so we'll give Colm an extra star for that. This is free to download on www.colmlynchmusic.com
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS
Tell Me Baby Warner Bros **
Those clever ol' Chilis have copped on that they can recycle some of their best moves and get another double-CD's worth of stuff out of it, leaving them lots of time to work on their tans and think of words that rhyme with "California".
SNOW PATROL
Chasing Cars Fiction **
Before Pan's People start getting the labradors in, this song is not about a vehicle-pursuing pooch, but a whining tune about an old dog looking for a home. "Would you lie with me?" he begs. What, and get fleas?
PET SHOP BOYS
Minimal Parlophone ***
Let's go minimal! Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe clear out some clutter to make room for more arch, ironic arty pop that should be as outdated as Ataris, but still sounds oddly contemporary. They're not throwing out the pointy hats, though.
RODRIGO Y GABRIELA
Stairway to Heaven Rubyworks **
The Mexican guitar duo ignore the "No Stairway" sign in the music shop and put their own Latin flavour on the hoary old Zep anthem. Their Metallica covers are better, but at least there's no lyrics about forests echoing with laughter.
