Celebrating the life of the iconic Sliabh Luachra fiddler, this year’s gala concert marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Johnny O’Leary, an accordion player whose tunes were boundless and whose rhythmic style was a boon to dancers. Guests include O’Leary’s grandson, Bryan, who is this year’s TG4 Young Traditional Musician of the Year. SL

The summer festivals may have packed their tents for the year, but there are still some festival-friendly events pushing out the boat for the autumn and winter. Samhain’s musical line-up is pretty damn smart, with Jon Hopkins, John Talabot, Maya Jane Coles, Booka Shade, SCNTST, Jimmy Edgar and many more. There’s also the usual array of sideshows including craft beer and gourmet grub. JC

The current house revival has lifted many boats, including that of Barnsley-born DJ and producer Daley Padley, whose productions and remixes have scored big in recent times.
