The heads of the six Irish-language Lead Organisations, along with senior executives of Foras na Gaeilge, met last Thursday for the first meeting of the Partnership Forum. The forum was established as part of the arrangements that followed from the decision of the North/South Ministerial Council to re-organise the voluntary sector from 19 organisations to six. Speaking after the meeting Foras na Gaeilge Deputy Chief Executive/Director of Education Services, Seán Ó Coinn, said that this first meeting was an important step in the process to address the significant challenges involved in developing the Irish language in the years ahead. He said that he was confident that the Irish-language sector could now address the major challenges facing it, North and South, in a positive and diligent way and in a spirit of partnership.
