Landscape, time and memory figure large in Niamh O'Malley's work. In fact while film is central to what she does, her thoughtful, slow-paced, brooding films, including Nephin in this show, could be seen as a contemporary though historically informed take on Irish landscape painting. As the notes on the show point out, they are emotionally involving without being in the least romanticised, which is true of Mairead O'hEocha's paintings as well.
