RODEN IN DUBLIN
There is such a thing as a free lunch – and an audience with the lovely Claudia Roden, too – when she visits the Instituto Cervantes in Lincoln Place, Dublin 2, next Friday, May 3rd, to talk about the food of Galicia. The lunchtime event is part of the Spanish-Celtic gastronomy series at the Institute and is free to attend, though you must register in advance. See dublin.cervantes.es, tel: 01-631 1500. Best known for her luscious cakes, Ryan's blog is also peppered with useful tips and hints, and it's a good laugh too. Food for Friends , by Edward Hayden, published by O'Brien Press, €22.99 This is Edward Hayden's fourth book, and the best so far. There's plenty here to interest newcomers to cooking who might need a bit of a hand, and inspiration for good home cooks wanting to extend their repertoire. This gorgeous pesto and sundried tomato buttermilk soda bread is a cinch to make.
DAIRY ON DAWSON
The former Apollo Gallery on Dublin's Dawson Street has been transformed into a pop-up shop selling sweet and savoury dishes made with Glenisk dairy products. The 10-week residency will also include supper clubs and food events. Prices are a keen €3.50 for snacks that will be served on rosemary and olive oil crostini from the Paris Bakery. The savoury offerings will include dishes made with Goatsbridge trout and Burren Smokehouse salmon, and the sweet treats will include the company's cheesecakes. See glenisk.com for more information.
