Weekend Wines December 22nd - O’Briens
There are special offers from O’Briens this week, two French wines that are worth considering if you haven’t bought your Christmas wines yet. Both have been reduced to less than €13.
Touraine is an underrated wine region from the Central Loire. Although it can produce every kind of wine, including red, rosé, white and sparkling, we know it best as a source of good value sauvignon blanc.
I have featured the previous vintages of Chateau Janoy le Bellevue before. The 2020 is every bit as good as its predecessors, offering great value for money when on promotion. This is a friendly, fruity Bordeaux that you can enjoy with or without food – including turkey!
Domaine de Lusqueneau Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Very aromatic – gooseberries leap out of the glass, with rich exotic fruits and plenty of lime zest on the crisp dry finish. This would make a great aperitif, or provide a great match for smoked salmon, sushi, milder creamy goat’s cheese, or grilled sea bass. 12.5% abv, €12.95 down from €19.95 from O’Briens.
Château Janoy Bellevue 2020, Bordeaux
Medium-bodied with generous ripe supple dark fruits and a nicely rounded finish. This is a great all-purpose wine that would go nicely with most red or white meats, as well as vegetarian dishes featuring red peppers or mushrooms. 14% abv, €11.95 down from €15.95 from O’Briens.
