Bob Hope’s LA estate hit the market this week with an eye-watering $27.5million (€20.35m) price tag.
The late entertainer’s home goes on sale for the first time, hot on the heels of an auction earlier this week of his and his wife Delores’s furniture and possessions which filled a 350-page catalogue.
The Hope estate in LA’s Toluca Lake sits on just over five acres of lawn with the 1,382sq m (14,876 sq ft) main house built in an “English traditional” style. In addition it has a two-bed guesthouse, staff quarters, two pools and, rather restrainedly, a one-hole golf course.
Designed for the comedian in 1939 by Robert Finkelhor and modernised in the 1950s, it's in stark contrast to the legendary star's other pad in Palm Springs which went on the market in February.
That sprawling mansion, designed by Modernist John Lautner in 1973 (and completed in 1980), most famously resembles a mushroom or volcano. With a $50 million price tag, it makes the LA place look like a steal.
