A man is being treated in hospital after the light aircraft he was flying came down in a field in Co Leitrim on Monday night.

Gardaí and the emergency services attended the scene at Drumlish, situated on the border of Leitrim and Co Longford, at 9.30pm.

The pilot was taken to the Regional Hospital Mullingar to be treated for injuries.

Gardaí said the scene has been preserved pending an investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Unit and the Irish Aviation Authority has been notified.
