A pedestrian and a cyclist have died following separate road traffic collisions in Co Offaly and north Co Dublin.
The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was fatally injured at around 2am on Sunday after being hit by a vehicle while walking on the R446 road between Moate and Horseleap at Marshbrook.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and the occupants of the car received medical attention, but were not deemed to be seriously injured.
“The road is currently closed and the scene has been preserved pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local traffic diversions are in place,” a Garda spokesman said.

Meanwhile, a cyclist aged in her 20s has died following a road traffic collision in north Co Dublin on Saturday.
Gardaí are investigating the incident involving a car and the cyclist which occurred at about 12.50pm at Grallagh, Garristown.
The woman’s body has been removed from the scene to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, where a postmortem is to take place in due course. The male driver of the car, who is aged in his 20s, was uninjured.
An examination of the crash site has been carried out by forensic collision investigators.
