I'm nearly but not quite a natural blonde and my recent introduction to Kevin Murphy's Angel Wash (€26 various stockists) upped my hair game entirely. If you think of this stuff as shampoo, the price seems outrageous. Instead think of it as a treatment: use it once or twice a week. It rids hair of dreaded brassy tones, leaving it bright, refreshed and with a glossy shine.

Moroccanoil Treatment Oil (€17.50 for 25ml various stockists and moroccanoil.com) is a cult product for a reason. This ultralight formula leaves your hair with a beautiful, non-greasy shine and helps with those nasty flyaways that always seem to gather around my forehead. A little goes a long way.

GHD are famed for their straighteners but now they're making waves in the curling world. The Curve range includes two tongs and two wands (all on sale for €124 ghdhair.com). Each creates different curls, from beach waves to 1920s pin-up. The tongs have spring-activated levers, which means less risk of burn, but I find the wands easier to use.

Kerastase Fix Fabulous Extra Strong Hold Hairspray (€19.95 millies.ie) texturises the hair, as well as holding it in place, making it a dream for up-dos as well as tousled tresses. The best bit is that it brushes out easily and doesn't leave hair dry or sticky.

My hair needs more taming than thickening, but I have it on good authority that John Frieda's Luxurious Volume Thickening Blow Dry Lotion (€5.33 from Boots) is the fastest way to a more luscious mane. Apply to roots after shampoo and conditioner but before blow drying for protection and a Bridget Bardot style barnet.

Preen at 52 Dame Street, Dublin, is my go-to hairdresser recommendation for both colour and cuts. I always leave the bright, happy little salon feeling better than when I came in, and with tons of awards under their belts, their stylists are the best around. I'd also recommend Kazumi on Molesworth Street as a lovely little salon with talented stylists.
