One of the key players creating looks for London’s upcoming Fashion Week is make-up maestro Terry Barber. Director of make-up artistry at cutting-edge brand MAC, he gives us a sneak peak on the five top trends for autumn – and the ‘runway to real life’ lowdown on how to wear them.

Camouflage Colours
Classic neutrals go on safari. Khaki, taupe and putty beige are this season's naturals for contour and smokiness; worn with transparent dewy skin, brushed up brows and a kind of 1970s sexiness. Our Cream Colour Base in Mauve Helix (available in October), €20 is perfect for this look.

Colour Crayon Eyeliner
It's back, without the 1980s tag. Any colour as long as it's bold. Cobalt blue is the season's hot colour – keep the rest of your face neutral. Go too far and you might look like you're in an Abba tribute band.

No make-up
It's a style choice of the modern woman to be bare-faced particularly against the strong colours and bold prints prevalent in fashion. The bare face is in fact, one constructed from layer of serums, BB creams, specific concealer and skin balms. It's about cheating nature and faking good health. Try dotting on some extra freckles with your eyebrow pencil for that "just got back from the country" ruddiness.

Blood Red
The red lip moves away from summer's bright neon pop and explores its darker, more classically sophisticated side.
Oxbloods and sharp blue reds contrasted with milky skin and soft glazed eyes indicate a definite move to a strong, modern chic, reminiscent of Helmut Newton and Yves Saint Laurent in his Rive Gauche period. Try MAC Lipstick in Diva, €19.50

Maxi Mascara
The cooler, grungier version of the false lash phenomenon. It's like you've slept in your mascara and just put more on top in the morning. Think Courtney Love not Kim Kardashian. Upper and lower lashes, several coats, clumps optional. Try MAC Extreme Dimension Mascara, €24.50
