Healy Mac's Irish Bar and Restaurant on Jalan P. Ramlee is an iconic venue here in Kuala Lumpur.
It sits along the busy thoroughfare between Kuala Lumpur’s to iconic landmarks, the KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers. Because of its ideal location it is always bustling with tourists of every nationality.
Despite the fact that Healy Mac’s is a tourist mecca it is also home to the very large Irish community here in KL. This is evident from the moment you enter the pub as all the staff are bedecked in the Orang Eire club polo shirts.
The pub is tastefully designed with an assortment of Irish memorabilia and sports jerseys. Its always great to sit enjoying a pint and to see your county jersey hanging on the wall. It makes you remember those Sundays in Tuam Stadium or Croke Park.
Sport plays a large part in the Irish community here in KL and Healy Mac's is the main sponsor of Orang Eire gaelic football club. Liam Healy and all his staff are always more than happy to help out the club and its members in their endeavours to spread the gaelic football religion throughout Asia.
The pub is a great focal point for the Irish community to meet up here in KL. There is always sport in one form or another to be seen on TV and you are guaranteed to meet a few friends every time you drop in. Liam and his staff are always so attentive to us and to the tourists passing through as well. The camaraderie in the pub means no one remains a stranger for long in Healy Macs. Everyone is welcomed with open arms.
On the food front I don’t know where to start. Asian food is fantastic but you cannot beat the taste of home. Healy Mac’s really excels here. Irish breakfasts, stews, roasts and of course all sorts of pork dishes are available. Light bits or a hearty meal, Healy Mac’s won’t let you go hungry.
Healy Mac’s is also the best place to get a pint of the black stuff here in KL. We are very lucky to have a Guinness brewery in town and Liam Healy and his staff pride themselves on serving the best pint in town as far as all Guinness connoisseurs are concerned.
If you ever find yourself in KL and need a good home cooked meal, a nice pint and some friendly faces Healy Mac’s on Jalan P. Ramlee is the place to go. Its the lifeblood of the Irish community here in KL.
