In each restaurant people will get to taste the top three tapas with a glass of Campo Viejo, the last restaurant normally serves dessert. The guides are picked for their wealth of stories and good humour and a trip on the Tapas Trail is great fun. It sells out rapidly every year, but this year you can have the experience at home with Deliveroo.
In a sensory tasting of the Campo Viejo wines a group experienced three of the wines under different coloured lights, white, red and green. Lighting and atmosphere are believed to change how wines taste. Remember that wine you loved in the South of France and brought home a case, and were disappointed how it tasted. You were just missing the atmosphere and lighting.
It was an interesting experiment of how environment can change taste. The result of the experiment was that red makes wine taste sweeter, smoother and have connotations of ripeness. The green had an effect of tartness and crispness on the wines and felt less complex. The white was for neutral balance. The wine was served in black glasses.
So if you are having a tapas evening at home change the lighting, add splashes of red to the environment such as candles, table settings and add some mellow music.
