RTÉ journalist Philip Boucher-Hayes has replaced broadcaster and presenter Craig Doyle as “the face” of the Enniskerry Victorian Field Day festival which takes place this Sunday, September 15th at Knocklinn Farm on Ballyman road outside Bray.

The festival, in aid of Wicklow Hospice, will have vintage tractors and cars, steam threshing displays, pony rides, tug of war (for both women’s and men’s teams), falconry, sheaf pitching, children’s tent, crafts and food fair. Crowds of up to 4,000 people have attended the event in the past.

Food journalist Suzanne Campbell will host a Wicklow Food tent with cookery demonstrations by Evan Doyle of BrookLodge and Ed Hick from Slow Food – on where to find local ingredients and what to do with them – as well as raw foods expert Dorcas Barry. Beekeeper Michael Wilde will bring some of his bees and show honey spinning with a centrefuge. Oisin Davis from Damson Diner in South William Street in Dublin will put together cocktails with an Irish twist.

Bake-Off enthusiasts can put their efforts up for judging in the Victoria Sponge baking competition, and for children there’s a cupcake contest; to enter bring the cakes along on the day. There are also jam-making competitions, and entries will be taken on the day, €3. Those who come in Victorian costume will be in with a chance of winning prizes. Entrance is €5, children free.
