The Porterhouse Brew Co has released a second version of its award-winning Around the Clock Imperial Irish Stout. The first batch, released last November, sold out within weeks and won both ICBI Beer of the Year and Beoir Beer of the Year.

Around the Clock 2 is almost the same beer, made from seven different malts, seven different hop additions and brewed continuously for 24 hours. This version has been aged for a further 185 days, or 365 in total, in a mix of sherry and bourbon barrels from Dingle Distillery. It comes in at a hearty, wine-like 12% abv and could be called a crossover beer tasting of malt, hops and whiskey.

The beer is an explosion of flavour, powerful, textured, smooth and complex, with toasted nuts, dark chocolate, butterscotch and ripe red fruits, finishing long and slightly bitter.

Just 6,000 bottles of Around the Clock 2 have been produced. They are released for sale today and will sell for €5 per 330cl bottle from porterhousebrewco.ie and specialist off-licences.
