Nico Reynolds will bring his unique blend of Caribbean cooking with a Latin influence to a new food show coming to RTÉ One this summer. The six-part primetime series will air in June. Outdoor cooking, barbecuing and grilling, is the focus of the new show, which will give Dublin born Reynolds the chance to demonstrate the skills he learned from his Jamaican grandmother, and from his extensive travels in South America.

Reynolds made his name on the Dublin street food scene with his pop-up Lil Portie Caribbean Kitchen, and his menu for the new series will include dishes such as Dublin Bay prawns with mango and black pudding; crushed pork and pineapple burgers, and grilled salmon with mint and feta.

Mark Moriarty also returns to television screens with a new series, Off Duty Chef, which starts next Wednesday, April 20th at 8.30pm on RTÉ One. "This series is all about combining simple, everyday ingredients with tips and techniques from the professional kitchen, to create delicious meals at home," he says.

New take on pizza
Pizza a Portafoglio is a new one on me, but Dave Holmes, who is selling it at Southpaw in Dublin's Temple Bar, says it means pizza folded like a wallet. A Neapolitan Street food, the pizza is designed for ease of eating on the go. Holmes, who is also responsible for the Coke Lane Pizza brand, proves the dough for these pizzas over two days, and cooks them in a gas-fired oven imported from Italy.

What really makes them stand out, apart from their distinctive shape, is the quality of the ingredients used to finish them, including Lino Olivieri’s extra virgin olive oil, made on his family farm in Italy and brought back to Ireland. The mortadella pizza is drizzled with house-made pistachio cream, and the nduja pizza is draped with jalapenos pickles, also made on the premises.

Organic Italian sparkling soft drinks and cannoli are also available, and you’ll find Southpaw in Crown Alley, open Wednesday to Sunday, from noon to 10pm.

Wicks at WellFest
Health and fitness advocate and cookbook author Joe Wicks is among the headline speakers for WellFest, at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin on May 7th and 8th. Wicks will do a workout on the main Coffee+Gym stage, take part in a Q&A in the WellTalk space, do a reading of his new children's book, The Burpee Bears, and a book signing at the Dubray Books tent.
