Of course, your mammy’s scones are the best in the world, why wouldn’t they be. So why not nominate them in the contest to find Ireland’s Best Scone. The competition, if entries from previous years are anything to go by, will be hot. Cafes, delis, bakeries and tea shops can enter, as well as home bakers.
Last year's winning entry, from professional baker Graham Herterich, whose business name is The Cupcake Bloke, was an unusual savoury scone with black pudding and apple.
Ten finalists will be chosen to cook their scones for a panel of judges and the winner will be decided between their marks and a public vote, with the winner receiving a cheque for €1,000. The finalists will be named on May 19th and the public vote will open at goodalls.ie on May25th.
The competition is being run by Goodalls and Odlums, and nominations open next Monday and close on Friday, May 8th at 5pm. Entries are being taken on the Goodalls Facebook page, by tweeting your nomination to @GoodallsIreland using the hashtag #bestscone, or by post at Goodalls Ireland, c/o Robert Roberts, 79 Broomhill Road, Dublin 24.
