When the Sultan of Oman gave an order in 1983 to create the most luxurious perfume in the world from the country’s three great raw materials – frankincense, Green Mountain rose and ambergris – the result was Amouage which means “waves of emotion”. The great French perfumer Guy Robert (Caleche, Madame Rochas and Dioressence) was engaged to create the fragrance from these rare ingredients and when it made its debut it was the most expensive perfume in the world. Amouage is now being stocked in Dublin’s niche fragrance boutique, Parfumarija, in the Westbury Mall where its heady scents match its heady price tag of €250 a bottle.
