Plans to demolish a Blackrock house and replace it with two modern homes have provoked criticism in south Dublin.

John Hughes and Liam Robinson are seeking to demolish 8 Temple Crescent, a 1930s 120sq m (1,290sq ft) house and replace it with two four-bedroom semi-detached houses with a total size of 409sq m (4,390sq ft).

To date over 13 objections have been lodged with the council regarding the development, which is located directly across the road from Neptune House, a listed building.

"The proposed modern design is totally out of character with the road and constitutes a foreign infill in the centre of period houses," according to David and Ellen Hegarty, who live next door to the proposed development.

The Residents of Temple Park Avenue stated in a letter to the council that the proposed development would "completely dwarf" an adjacent bungalow.

Last year the council refused permission for a similar development on the site on grounds of scale and design.
