The Block was surprised to spot international interior design superstar Martyn Lawrence Bullard in Dublin recently. The former star of Bravo's Million Dollar Decorators and Channel 4's Hollywood Me stayed in Dublin's Shelbourne Hotel during his sojourn – which appears to have been primarily for business purposes.
The busy decorator shared photos on social media throughout the week of his “new project” – a stately manor in Co Laois. This property is none other than Capard House, the 13-bedroom palatial pile that came to the market in April 2014. Originally the owners sought €5.5 million for the painstakingly restored Greek Revival mansion, since then the asking price has been reduced to €4.75 million.
The details of Bullard's involvement with Capard House are unknown, though he specialises mainly in the expensive and the exquisite.
The award-winning Los Angeles-based designer's client base ranges from Cher to Elton John, and he is known for working with jaw-dropping budgets, claiming his largest budget for a single home was $26 million (€24 million).
Capard House’s selling agent Savills would only confirm that the property is still for sale. In recent times, one of the designer’s most noteworthy clients has reportedly been reality TV star Khloe Kardashian, as Bullard is said to have been enlisted to give her latest multimillion dollar Californian home a makeover in 2014.
Her sister Kim Kardashian honeymooned in Co Laois this time last year, staying just 20 minutes away from Capard House at Ballyfin Demesne, and she has previously stated that she "fell in love" with Ireland during a visit. Given Bullard's links to the Kardashians, perhaps he could convince the star and her husband Kanye West to snap up the country estate.
