Sure as cherry blossom in full bloom heralds spring – and exam season – a Moving to Portugal roadshow must surely mark peak property hubris in a barely recovered economy.
But there it landed into the inbox this week, the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce is bringing a dedicated Moving to Portugal Show to Dublin in the next couple of weeks. The organisers have lined up an array of speakers to offer tips on retiring to Portugal, buying a second home and, intriguingly, benefiting from Portugal’s NHR (Non-Habitual Residence) tax regime.
Apparently the bumph goes "the love affair between Ireland and Portugal is a historically rich one, and, it shows no sign of slowing down".
They may have a point with Portugal's national airline TAP recently launching two new flights a day between Dublin and Lisbon and more than 100 Irish property owners already located in the premier golf resort of Vale do Lobo, it's a formula the well-heeled Irish have fervently embraced in recent years. And it looks like there are no shortage of advisers lining up to attract the next wave of exiles. Speakers on the day will include Mazars (Ireland), TMF (Malta), Edge International (Portugal), International Pension Transfer Consultants (Ireland).
Leading Algarve resorts hoping to entice some of this investment cash will include exhibitors Quinta do Lago, Vale de Lobo, Vilamoura World, Ombria Resort, and Palmares Resort as well as Algarve specialist resales agents – Fine and Country Algarve and Cerro Novo Algarve Properties, and also Portugal Sothebys Real Estate.
Forget about recovery, the boom is back baby.
Move to Portugal takes place on Wednesday, May 15th, in three seminars between 11am and 9pm at the Orient Suite, The Alex Hotel, 41-47 Fenian St, Dublin
