The house complements this, with a room arrangement and philosophy that achieves a family home with interactive living that is easy to maintain.

First impressions of the double-height ceiling in the hall, with glazed roof windows and travertine floor tiles, give a sense of the spaciousness which is carried through the house. The colours used - white, cream and grey, with wood and tiled floors, and upright radiators - add to the feelings of light and breadth.

The sittingroom has four front-facing windows, a smart slate fireplace with recessed bookshelves alongside. A glazed sliding door opens to a large family area that is also accessible from the hall.

The kitchen/breakfast room is well fitted in pale cupboards with a comprehensive range of equipment, including a self-cleaning De Dietrich double oven.

Steps lead down to a large bright family area floored in wide oak boards, furnished with easy sofas and a large refectory table.

Glazed doors open to the rear garden, with a side door opening to utility room, toilet/shower room, and side garden exit.

Three bedrooms, two doubles and one single, are off the main hall. Each is floored in oak, two have good fitted storage space. The family bathroom nearby is well fitted and finished.

Grey carpeted stairs leads up to a child-free zone, comprising a bedroom with easy seating space, dressingroom and attractive bathroom completely tiled in aged marble.

The front of the house is painted and wood panelled. The front garden is set in sandstone gravel with raised flower boxes and bordered shrub beds.

The east-facing rear garden has a deep sandstone patio overlooking 510.9sq m (5,500sq ft) of secluded grounds, bounded by mature trees and hedging.

One lawn section serves as a sport pitch, while a central section has play equipment and a bark surface for soft landings.

A third lawned section, with a garden bench, catches the evening sun.
