Dublin's penultimate art auction of the year goes on view at the Minerva Suite in the RDS, Ballsbridge on Saturday where Morgan O'Driscoll's Auctioneers is showing 120 paintings and sculptures. The auction takes place on Monday evening (December 8th) at 6pm.
Most are in the "affordable category" with estimates ranging from a few hundred euro up to €15,000-€20,000 for the highest-priced lot, an oil-on-board painting titled Travelling Through Kerry by Daniel O'Neill. A still-life of daffodils wrapped in pages of The Irish Times is the subject of Spring Times by Desmond Hickey (€500-€750). The Sugarloaf From Enniskerry by Belfast artist William Conor, is €5,000-€7,000.
Also, from Northern Ireland, Robert Taylor Carson's ruggedly appealing Lighting Up (Old Dan) – estimated at €6,000-€9,000 – is dated 1985 and depicts an increasingly rare sight: a grizzled old chap lighting a pipe.
