A royal sentry box used by soldiers standing guard outside Buckingham Palace will be auctioned at Bonhams in London later this month. It is, perhaps, the ultimate "trophy" accessory for flamboyant property owners and a feature likely to impress, intrigue or infuriate the neighbours.
The pre-sale estimate is £5,000-£7,000 (€6,000-€8,400) ahead of the auction on January 28th and 29th in Knightsbridge.
The exterior is painted in navy blue and decorated with parcel gilt; the interior is painted white.
The box is of a type used until 1992 when it was “de-commissioned” and was given as a gift to a soldier who had served as equerry to the Queen.
