An apartment development on the grounds of Our Lady's Grove school in Goatstown, Dublin 14, has been given the green light by planners at Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.

The project is being carried out as a joint venture scheme between the Religious of Jesus & Mary and the Goatstown Partnership, which is headed by the Arnold Crampton Group.

The group is to build school and convent facilities in part payment for being allowed to develop apartments on the site.

The scheme will involve the construction of over 100 apartments on a three-acre site which forms part of Our Lady's Grove Primary and Secondary School's 14-acre grounds.

Under the deal, the order will receive a portion of the sale price of each of the apartments.

Planning permission has been granted for four apartment blocks rising from two to five storeys.

Permission has also been granted for a 24-bedroom convent building.

The work will include the refurbishment of Roebuck Grove House to provide 11 apartments and the demolition of a prefab primary school building.

The demolition of the school building will not take place until a new primary school building is built elsewhere on the grounds.

A planning application for this new school is due to be lodged shortly.

A master plan for the 14-acre campus also includes an extension to the existing secondary school and new recreation facilities.

A spokesperson for the order, Bill Nowlan of WK Nowlan Associates, said any future development of land to the rear of the school had not been decided upon.
