Ever dream of putting your own creative stamp on a caravan? Well, now is your chance.

Electric Picnic is offering up to 10 grants for creative types who want to jazz up their own caravans (or other mobile structures) with the most wacky, weird and wonderful ideas being brought to life for Trailer Park at this year's festival.

Each year, Trailer Park plays host to a wide array of caravans, horse boxes, mobile homes and other miscellaneous vehicles that have been repurposed and reimagined as unique installations. Think a beaten-up caravan masquerading as a mobile tattoo studio or a seaside mobile home housing a tongue-in-cheek exhibition on the much-maligned seagull.

This year, the festival has teamed up with Will Hardie, the master craftsman behind Channel 4's Amazing Spaces and Shed of the Year, who knows a thing or two about unlikely transformations. Along with Trailer Park's creative directors Roz and Hugo Jellett, Hardie will select the best ideas and work with their creators to bring them to fruition.

Passion and vision

“I’m delighted to be in involved in this competition,” says Hardie. “I love that Trailer Park supports people’s passion and vision to turn the humble caravan into wonderful and wacky creations, and where better to do this than at a festival where all can be entertained and inspired?

“I’m always astounded by the passion with which folk adapt and embellish their caravans. There is a huge community that is wild about these humble structures and this is a competition that celebrates this quirky world without limits.”

The rules are simple. Put together a proposal outlining your creative vision and submit it to Trailer Park. From there, up to 10 creators will be awarded a bursary of up to €2,000 to design, build and present their very own conceptual caravan at this year’s Electric Picnic. Successful applicants will then be invited to attend the festival with friends to show off their glorious creation.

So whether you’re an architect, designer, engineer, actor, musician, performance artist, horticulturist or just a good old-fashioned craic enthusiast, it’s time to get your thinking caps on. Closing date for entries is April 15th.
