Helen and Alan Burns have called Hillside home since 1996, when they purchased the house. The Burns both extended and renovated the property, the result of which is a bright home with high ceilings and maple floors.
The overhaul, carried out by architect Peter Andrew, saw the addition of a kitchen-cum-dining and a television room to the property bringing the total floor area to 226sq m (2,435sq ft).
A solid maple Poggenpohl kitchen was installed and fitted with top of the range Gaggenau and Miele appliances, and features thick black granite counter tops and Chinese slate flooring.
"It's really bright, getting the sun all day long and overlooks our garden" says Helen. The garden was also given an overhaul under the watchful eye of landscaper Martin Brady and, standing on half an acre features many specimen trees, fruit trees and agapanthus set around Indian sandstone patios and wooden decking.
Off the kitchen is the dining area with two sets of full height windows allowing views of Stepaside Golf Course. “Because the garden is so private, it feels as if the house is actually located on the golf course due to the way the course sweeps upwards,” remarks Helen.
A large reception room divided by a double-sided open fireplace framed in Portuguese sandstone has French doors which lead to an outside patio, one of three that surround the house. A television room and three bedrooms complete downstairs. Upstairs are two dormer bedrooms one of which is en-suite.
The Burns are moving to Foxrock and have placed their home in walk-in condition on the market with estate agent Daphne L Kaye with an asking price of €1.1 million.
