Luxury with panoramic views

Modern four-bedroom family home on 2.4 acres of buttercup fields, in Gort, Co Galway

Nestled on 2.4 acres of buttercup fields, with panoramic views of the Aughty Mountains, lies a 248sq m four-bedroom property constructed in 2008. Home to coiffeur Adrian Moloney and partner Michael, the property is a culmination of ideas collected on their world travels.

Taking full advantage of the southerly aspect, the split-level living and diningroom spills on to a courtyard accessed by concertina doors. Overhead is a stoop roof – open on three sides, with overhead windows both allowing passive heat and bathing the terrace in light.

“We got the idea for this in South Africa. It is a solid roof with the largest Velux on the market: we wanted to maximise the light and have an alfresco dining area which is protected from the rain,” says Moloney.

A further terrace lies off the master bedroom on the ground floor, accessed by French windows and again maximising the light. The master comes with all the bells and whistles of a five-star hotel, including a separate dressing room and large en suite.

No details have been overlooked in the design of the property.

The angled limestone fireplace in the main reception room, which echoes the exterior cladding, was inspired by a trip to France, and the bespoke concrete and oak staircase was handmade “by two French lads living in Leitrim”, says Moloney.

Flooring throughout is reclaimed French oak, which the couple sourced in Wilson’s Salvage Yard in Co Down, and handles on the half-glazed oak doors are Italian Murano glass.

The house has two dining areas in addition to the terraces: a formal dining room and a snug adjacent to the solid-oak kitchen, for more relaxed repasts.

Adrian and Michael are downsizing, and have placed their home on the market through Colm Farrell Auctioneers with an asking price of €475,000.
