South Hill in Dartry is a small estate of mostly semi-detached houses built on the elevated site in and around the 1950s.
There’s a green, just one vehicular entrance (which means it’s not a drive through to somewhere else) and two pedestrian entrances, one from the Milltown direction, the other from Dartry. It’s a quiet, well-established family-friendly neighbourhood with some residents still there from the beginning and with a slow turnover in houses.
As a location it’s close to the Dodder linear park for walks, near several schools and it’s a short cycle to town. These are some of the reasons the owners of number 52 bought their semi-detached four-bedroom house here 21 years ago – and since then the Luas has arrived and the stop is a stroll away.

They’re selling up now to move somewhere smaller, and they leave a house that they extended, generally improved and decorated so that it is in walk-in condition. With 152sq m/1,640sq ft, it is for sale through Sherry Fitzgerald for €1.050 million.
The well-designed extension across the back was built 10 years ago and gave extra square footage to the rear living room and extended the kitchen so it now has space for a dining table and chairs.
The granite topped cream kitchen units are well-laid out and a utility room and guest toilet were built at the side to the rear of the garage. The reception rooms interconnect and the back room opens out onto a covered timber deck that can also be accessed via another glazed door from the kitchen. As the house is not overlooked to the rear – the green is at the back – it’s a sunny spot for outdoor dining in the summer.
The hall in these Dartry houses is larger than that of many suburban semi-ds of the period, bright too having two narrow windows throwing light on to the stairs and top landing. Upstairs there are four bedrooms, a small bathroom and a separate toilet.
