An end-of-terrace house built around 1900 in Sandycove has been revamped several times in recent years. Original period details – centre roses, fireplaces, sash windows – have either been restored or replaced; more period-style features, such as panelling in the halls upstairs and down have been added. Helen Turkington did the interiors and the small back garden was landscaped by local garden company Formality. An internal courtyard is a distinctive feature.
The result is a warm, stylish house. Now the 165sq m (1,779sq ft) three-bed is for sale through Sherry FitzGerald seeking €1.35 million. The big price reflects not just its good condition but its location: the house is on the corner of Albert Road and Elton Park, a short walk from the shops and restaurants of Sandycove/Glasthule, and about 10 minutes' walk to the Dart.
The hall, floored with beige stone tiles, has rather busy brown-patterned Nina Campbell wallpaper. The livingroom on the right, painted dove grey, is a modest-sized room with a large pale grey marble fireplace, double-glazed Marvin sash windows and a polished oak floor. There’s a small snug – a little sitting room – to the right of the hall behind the living room: it has French windows opening into the internal courtyard, facing the diningroom, seen through another set of French windows on the opposite side of the courtyard. There is also a smart understairs toilet.

Kitchen/dining room
The extended kitchen/dining room at the back of the house is bright, with two sets of glazed doors opening into the small rear garden. The space is part-divided, with the dining room separated from the kitchen; an island unit with a cream polished granite countertop stands between the two spaces. A large cream Stanley range warms the house; a washer and dryer are concealed in a cupboard in the hall.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms – two doubles and a single – off a surprisingly wide landing. The main bedroom at the front of the house has a centre rose, sash windows with working shutters and a smart tiled en-suite shower room. The single bedroom has cleverly fitted wardrobes.
A magnolia tree stands in the neat front garden; electronic timber gates open to the side of the house, off Elton Park, into the small landscaped back garden. There’s a cherry-red electric awning over the back door and a sandstone-tiled patio next to a gravelled space where there’s parking for one car, partly screened by planting. Otherwise, the owners have residents’ permit parking – there are spaces to park on one side of Elton Park.
