Fair play to the recent correspondent to the Block who did not want to be identified but simply wanted to copy us in on her beef with the new local property tax.
The 81-year-old woman put it to Revenue that as an owner of multiple properties she was being discriminated against by having to file her property tax exclusively online. In addition to her own home, she had inherited a house from her mother, and jointly owned an original family homestead along with her siblings.
The lady copied her eloquently put argument to the Minister for Finance, the Minister for Enterprise and ourselves, asking that Revenue “give particular consideration to the elderly, who are faced with the implacable attitude shown by the Revenue Commissioners”.
Last week Revenue issued a statement easing its requirement on multiple property owners to file and pay the tax online only. Instead they can now authorise another person to file and pay online on their behalf. That failing, they can simply do it over the phone. David: 1, Goliath: 0.
