Dublin 6/€2m: A large period semi in Dublin 6 has been tastefully upgraded into a home of distinction, says Bernice Harrison
The redbrick Victorian era semi-detached house at 36 Windsor Road in Rathmines is bigger inside than it first appears.
With five bedrooms and over 232sq m (2,500sq ft) of space, it'll appeal to a growing family, possibly trading up from a smaller house on one of the surrounding roads, and to a buyer that's looking for a house that doesn't require any work. It's got a good garden too, something that's not a feature of houses on some of the adjacent Dublin 6 roads.
Windsor Road is off Palmerston Road and this house is at the Moyne Road end backing onto the McGough Home. It's going to auction through Sherry FitzGerald on May 26th with a guide of €2 million.
The current owners bought around five years ago when the house was already in good condition, although that didn't stop them upgrading, decorating throughout and installing extra bathrooms and revamping the kitchen.
At hall level there are good-sized interconnecting reception rooms, although the family spends most of its time in the extended kitchen. This is down a couple of steps at the back of the house. One the way to it is a utility room on one side and guest toilet under the stairs.
The kitchen cum living area is a large open-plan extended space with the fitted painted country style units at one end complete with an enormous Leibherr stainless steel double door fridge freezer and a Britannia stainless steel six-ring stove.
At the garden end of the room is a large seating area with French door access to the patio.
All of the five bedrooms are doubles, the main bedroom being particularly large, taking up the width of the front of the house. It has an en suite, as does the bedroom in the attic. There are two more bathrooms, one on each level and, like the other bathrooms, these are fitted out in a luxurious contemporary style with Portuguese limestone and stylish fittings. When the current owners moved in there was a garage, but this has been torn down, although there is still rear access, as well as pedestrian side access. The long back garden has been recently landscaped and, as well as the lawn, there are two patio areas, one at the side of the return, the other directly outside the kitchen/living area.
