Audi’s big bruiser is many things - massive for a start. It’s cavernous inside, with proper seating for seven adults (even if those in the third row do need to squeeze up a bit), and lofty headroom. It’s hugely imposing from the outside, too. Not over-the-top, nor especially stylish, but kind of appealing in a large, square, sort of way.
The cabin is, of course, beautifully assembled, and while it’s not the biggest fun around, you can take a certain amount of pleasure chucking one about the place. Plugin hybrid e-Tron version pairs a battery with a V6 diesel engine for short-hops on full electric power, but diesel frugality on longer runs.
It’s a good mixture, actually, but you do have to sacrifice the third row of seats to get it, as that’s where the battery goes. SQ7, with its triple-turbo 4.0-litre V8 diesel, is little short of astonishing, and can really handle itself on twisty roads, too. Not cheap, but quite brilliant.
