As the Mitsubishi Pajero marks 25 years on the market the latest version arrives in dealers from Friday, November 24th. It carries much the same off-road styling of old, but with minor updates to the front and interior, writes Michael McAleer, Motoring editor
There are new styling features on the exterior, in particular the new grille, while on the inside, the cabin has been revamped with new audio controls - although the dash remains uncluttered compared to rivals.
Mitsubishi has retained the 3.2-litre diesel engine but thanks to the introduction of common rail architecture it now provides up to 170bhp, while increased torque contributes to a more flexible performance. In addition, Mitsubishi claims noise levels in the new engine have been reduced by 20 per cent.
The new Pajero also comes with traction and stability control as standard while ABS, Electronic Brake Assist Control and Electronic Brake-force Distribution remain on all models.
It's available in both Short Wheel Base (SWB) and Long Wheel Base (LWB), manual and automatic, with all models now coming with four wheel-drive, cruise control, traction control and air conditioning as standard.
Prices start at €29,720 for the commercial versions (ex VAT) and €47,150 for the passenger range. The commercial range is likely to make up 90 per cent of the 1,500 Pajeros Mitsubishi expects to sell next year, up 300 on this year's sales.
