ATHEA ANNUAL ROAD RACE:Athea Motorcycle Road Race Club's sixth annual road race takes place in the south of the country at the weekend, on Saturday June 30th, and Sunday July 1st.
Organiser's of this year's event promise an exciting race meeting with an increase in prize money, and riders making their way over from the Isle of Man centenary TT.
"We have an 11-race programme. Prize money is the largest to date with €5,000 to the winner of the Grand Finale. We hope to see all the familiar riders and teams who have given Athea so much support in the past," according to organiser Margaret McCarroll.
Racers Cameron Donald and team-mate Keith Amor will get an opportunity to test out the winding three-mile circuit as they take to the Athea track for the first time this year.
The weekend will be filled with electrifying motorbike action and great fun and activities for all the family too. McCormack's Amusements will be camped out in the village offering fun, stalls and street theatre.
If you have a classic motorcycle lying around gathering dust in your shed, and you reckon you can get it going, why not take part in Friday night's classic parade and take it for a few laps of the circuit. "The classic parade on the Friday night will leave the paddock at 7pm taking in Moyvane and Glin, and returning back to the village. There's always a great selection of bikes from yesteryear displayed in the village at 8pm," adds McCarroll.
For more information on the classic parade, contact Adrian Craig, on 0044-798 932 327.
Practice takes place on Saturday with race day on Sunday. Roads close at 10am both days.
'HIZZY' DVD:
Hark back to the days when daring Scottish road racer Steve "Hizzy" Hislop raced between the trees and hedges of the Isle of Man circuit at speeds of up to 120 mph. Imagine taking a hair-raising trip around the 37.3 mile-long TT circuit with the twice-British Superbike Champion and 11-time TT winner.
Well, Duke's new DVD TT Flyer offers the opportunity to fly with Hizzy through the famous Manx circuit. "Viewers feel every bump, every wheel lift and every gear change as the much-missed Hislop threads his Honda VFR 750 around the iconic TT course," claims Vicky Stevenson of Duke Video. Recorded during practice for the 1990 Formula One TT, this DVD captures on-board action and footage from Hizzy and his racing mates Joey Dunlop, Carl Fogarty and Ian Lougher.
Priced at around €19 and available from leading video outlets or at www.dukevideo.com
