Routes to avoid around the country in the week ahead

DUBLIN:

The Old Belgard Road is closed between the roundabout on the Old Belgard Road/Cookstown Estate Road and Embankment (Link) Road until September 22nd to facilitate the construction of the Luas trackwork. Access to/from the Cookstown Industrial Estate from the Naas Road and Walkinstown Embankment Road is via the Belgard Road, Cookstown Road and Cookstown Way. Diversion signs will be erected. Local access will be maintained at all times.

In Dún Laoghaire, Longford Terrace will be closed between Seafield Avenue and Clifton Avenue from 8 p.m. this Friday to 11 a.m. on Saturday, and again from 8 p.m. on Saturday to 2 p.m. on Sunday to enable Iarnród Éireann to work on the railway footbridge. Traffic will be diverted from Seapoint Avenue to Monkstown Road and back onto Longford Terrace via Clifton Avenue. Access from Brighton Avenue and Albany Avenue will also be closed during the works.

WICKLOW:

The Irish Water Safety/ Vodafone Lifesaving Championships take place on the South Beach of Brittas Bay next Saturday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Traffic will be heavier from lunchtime onwards, especially at the turn off for Brittas Bay from the N11 at Jack White's Bar between Arklow and Wicklow town.

KILDARE:

There are races at The Curragh next Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday the first race is at 2.10 p.m. and the last at 5.15 p.m. On Sunday, the first race is at 2.15 p.m. and the last at 5.50 p.m. Expect delays before the first and after the last race. The Curragh is south-west of Dublin off the main Dublin- Cork-Limerick Road (N7/M7- junction 10)

Summer conferring ceremonies are taking place at NUI Maynooth. Today's ceremonies will be at 10 a.m., noon and 3.30 p.m. Expect heavy traffic on approach roads to the college, before and after the ceremonies. Delays may result on the M4 and N4.

OFFALY:

Traffic disruptions in Clara, Co. Offaly, will continue into 2003 as part of the Clara Sewerage Scheme. Through traffic should divert in Tullamore via the N52 to Kilbeggan, then to Moate via the N6.

KERRY:

There are races in Killarney this weekend - on Sunday and Monday. On each day the first race is at 3 p.m. and the last at 5.30 p.m. Expect delays before the first and after the last race, especially on the N71, Kenmare/Bantry Road as the racecourse is situated off it, about a quarter of a mile from Killarney town centre.

GALWAY:

The annual Clarenbridge Oyster Festival takes place this weekend, starting on Friday and ending on Sunday. The festival will feature a yacht race, wine and cheese tasting, and plenty of musical entertainment. While no restrictions will be in place, up to 10,000 people are expected and since it's on the N18 between Oranmore and Gort, traffic on that route on both approaches to Clarenbridge is likely to be very heavy.

SLIGO:

The Scríobh Literary Festival is on this week. It starts tomorrow and runs until Sunday. No traffic restrictions will be in place but there may be more traffic around the area for its duration.
