Routes to avoid around the country during the week ahead
DUBLIN: For Luas finishing works, all Harcourt St traffic at the junction of Cuffe St & St Stephens Green will be diverted at the weekend (May 22nd & 23rd).
All traffic will be diverted onto Cuffe St, and motorists are advised in order to avoid delays to use alternative routes.
On Saturday May 29th & Sunday May 30th, the Main Street in Lucan will be closed between the junctions of Lucan Rd and Lower Lucan Rd, from noon to 7 p.m.
This is for the Italian Street Festival.
The Pine Valley Estate in Ballinteer has been closed to through traffic due to M50 traffic diverting through the estate. Closures are due to high volumes of traffic using the estate during morning and evening peak periods.
Junctions affected are: Pine Valley Park with Pine Valley Drive, Pine Valley Ave with Pine Valley Drive and Pine Valley Park with Pine Valley Way.
KILDARE: A new traffic light system was put in place on the Kildare Rd junction in Athy at the N78. Please be aware and reduce speed on your approach.
The N4/M4 will close for work at the Kilcock Interchange tomorrow, Friday May 21st and Saturday May 22nd between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night. Delays are likely on the R148 between Pitchfordstown and Maynooth and in the towns of Kilcock and Maynooth . Westbound traffic on the N4 should exit at Maynooth Interchange and go via Kilcock and back onto the N4.
Eastbound traffic on the N4 should exit at Kilcock via the Maynooth Interchange back onto the N4.
The diversions will be signposted.
KILKENNY: Temporary traffic lights are in place on the N8 approx. two miles north of Johnstown daily between 7a.m. and 7 p.m. until next Tuesday.
CLARE: roadworks will take place on the R463 between Killaloe and Scarriff, today and tomorrow, 8.30a.m. and 5 p.m. Traffic control measures will be in place and minor delays can be expected.
LIMERICK: Major traffic diversion will operate on Lower Shannon Street/Henry Street until June 23rd, from 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday to Fridays, inclusive.
The Local Diversion Route will be signposted and traffic on route to the north of the city - i.e., (Ennis Road Condell Road) from O'Connell Street, Roches Street, Mallow Street, O'Connell Avenue and Henry Street should use the Shannon Bridge.
TIPPERARY: Works on the N7 near Birdhill, for another three months. Traffic control measures are in place and significant delays can be expected.
GALWAY: Roadworks on the main N18 in Gort and will continue until at least mid-July. The works will take place from Monday to Friday between 7.30 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. They will take place between Gort & Ennis. A shuttle traffic system will be in operation.
CAVAN: Roadworks on the N87 between Belturbet and Ballyconnell until the end of this month. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation along the route.
ROSCOMMON: Traffic restrictions are in place in Castlerea between Main St and Frenchpark junction. This is due to pipelaying works. They will be in place until the end of May.
WATERFORD: Roadworks are in place on the Tramore Rd at Ballindud and will continue until further notice.
CORK: Newtwopothouse to Doneraile Rd closed until Monday next for roadworks. Diversions are in place via Buttevant.
The regional Glanworth to Fermoy Rd at Grange has been closed and will not re-open until June 1st. Diversions are in place and delays can be expected.
THE PEOPLE IN NEED BACKATHON: This event takes place on May 20th & 21st - a Bread Van will be reversed from Ballinrobe to Dublin via Westmeath.
A group of Irish Pride Drivers are going to attempt to reverse an Irish Pride Bread Van from Ballinrobe to the RTÉ studios in Dublin for People in Need.
It is estimated that it will take 18 hours to reverse a bread van from Mayo to Dublin (140-mile journey), passing through six different counties.
On Thursday, May 20th it will leave the Irish Pride Bakery in Ballinrobe at 9 a.m., going via Claremorris at 10.30 a.m. and Ballyhaunis at noon, it will pass through Castlerea at 1.30 p.m. and Roscommon at 3 p.m. It will head through Lanesborough at 3.45 p.m. and Ballymahon at 4.50 p.m., and it will finish for the day in Mullingar at 6.50 p.m.
On Friday May 21st, it will depart Mullingar at noon, going via Kinnegad at 1.30 p.m. It will then go via Enfield at 3.30 pm and Kilcock at 5 p.m.: it will then continue via Maynooth at 6 p.m. and Leixlip at 7.30 p.m.
It will then travel through Lucan at 8.30 p.m. and should reach its final destination at the RTÉ Studios in Donnybrook by 10.30 p.m. Motorists are asked to be patient.
