Not due until 2009, Mercedes are already busy testing the next generation of the E-Class.
Due at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, the next E-Class will copy the S-class's wheel-arch extensions, rising character line below the door handles, massive bumpers and increased glass area.
Mercedes is wary of swamping the new car in technology after reliability issues with early versions of the previous generation severely dented the brand's reputation.
However, new technology will concentrate around the theme of driver assistance, so we can expect a lane-departure warning system, an eye-movement monitor, traffic-sign identification, road-condition sensors and stability control that accounts for crosswinds and tyre wear.
