Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show: This year's motorbike show at the RDS promises an impressive lineup, writes Patricia Weston.
Switch on the ignition, slide into your leathers and helmet, kick your bike into gear, and race down to the RDS this weekend, for this year's Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show.
This year, the show promises lots of two-wheeled fun and plenty of eye candy for bikers.
No doubt, scantily-clad models will cruise around and drape themselves across powerful motorcycles to try and entertain the public, but don't be distracted from the real models on show - the latest and most powerful 2007 machines.
Positioned at the entrance to the main hall, Ducati, Yamaha, BMW, Suzuki, Honda and Harley Davidson will be showcasing their bikes.
Ducati will be exhibiting the new, sleek and exciting 1098, the Multistrada 1100 and the S4S Monster Sports Classic range and Monster 695.
Also, the fantastic and highly attractive Hypermotard will be on show to the public for the first time in Ireland.
You can catch a glimpse of Yamaha's ever popular and powerful Fazers, with the FZ6 S1 Fazer and S2 Fazer on show - and don't miss the YZ -R1.
Expect to be impressed with BMW's powerful range of motorcycles. All the new single-cylinder models will be displayed, including the new G650 X Challenge, G650X Country and G650 X Moto. The K1200 Sport, 1200 GS Adventure and R1200 models will also be on show.
Suzuki's new technically-advanced Gixxer, the K7 GSXR 1000 will be there for spectators to drool over, along with Suzuki's full range including the 650 and 750 versions of the GXR. You won't want to miss Suzuki's selection of powerful scooters either: look for the Burgman 650 cc Executive.
Honda's new airbag-fitted GoldWing GL 1800 and the Transalp 650 XTL, Hornet 600 and XL 1000 Varadero are a must see for GoldWing fans.
Waterford Harley Davidson will be exhibiting more than 10 different bikes from the Harley range, including the XR1200, which will be spectacularly launched at the show. They will also be showcasing a couple of Buells, the Buell Ulysses and the Buell Lightning.
Once you've perused the bikes in the main hall you can saunter outside and witness World Stunt champion Chris Pfeiffer perform death-defying, daredevil over hanging wheelies, jumps and wheelie circles on and off his BMW F800S.
Irish stunt rider Mattie Griffin - regarded as one of the world's leading stunt riders - will also be performing the freestyle motorcycle stunts that have made him a star all over Europe.
Ken Fox and his team will also wow with gravity defying antics around the Wall of Death. It is "one of the greatest live shows travelling today", according to exhibition director Ruth Lemass.
And for the first time in the show's history, the Red Bull X Fighters will be giving spectators a treat with their live show in the outside arena.
World renowned rider Fredrik Johansson will be showcasing his tricks, including his impressive 360 degree backflip.
Also making their debut, Flat Track Speedway riders will be revving up their engines and kicking up the mud for three races each day in the sand arena.
If you're tempted to take along the youngsters - children under 12 accompanied by an adult gain free admission - they certainly won't get bored.
They can bounce away their energy on the giant trampoline or take a spin around the circuit on Go Karts or Mini Motos.
If you're so inclined, you can rub shoulders with racing hero Steve Platter and Long Way Round adventurer Charley Boorman.
Charley will be at the Duke Video and BMW stands to sign autographs and talk about his new book and video Race to Dakar.
British Superbike rider Steve Platter will be available to talk to fans and sign autographs. Steve has announced he is to ride for AIM Yamaha and will contest the British Superbike championship, which begins at Brands Hatch on April 9th, on a new 2007 R1.
A fusion of motorbike launches for the serious petrol-heads, combined with light-hearted, entertaining stunts and action, this year's show is sure to be a fun-filled event for both bikers and non-bikers.
The show runs from 4pm to 9pm this Friday, and from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Bikers park free. Tickets are available at the door and cost €15 for adults (€10 for OAPs).
