Kathryn Sargent, Savile Row’s first female bespoke tailor to have her own business, was in Dublin recently sharing her extensive experience with students at the National Tailoring Academy. Sargent was head cutter at Gieves & Hawkes for 15 years – the first female to hold the position. She had many famous clients, including a sultan for whom she had to make a full-length velvet coat with elaborate gold embroidery, and 25 uniforms for the king of Tonga’s coronation entourage. Though she was born in Leeds, her father was from Dublin. See kathrynsargent.com Deirdre McQuillan
