Jewellery that checks the UVs, a tool for a better selfie and the kettle that turns water into power

Netatmo June Sun Monitor
It may look like a sparse piece of jewellery but it actually houses UV sensors which measure the wearer's exposure to the sun and syncs up to a smartphone to deliver the feedback. As well as giving the UV count, the June's app advises on creaming up or can remind you to grab a hat. There's a choice of leather or silicon straps and it runs for 12 hours from a charge. Available in platinum, gold and gunmetal. App is free; bracelet is €95 from netatmo.com

SelfieStick
The ease with which you take a selfie is as telling a betrayal of the years as you'll find. For the young 'uns, no night out or sightseeing is complete without an in-situ selfie. If you'd like to raise your game, the SelfieStick is the go-to accessory. A telescopic arm with a 360-degree poseable head, it fits pretty much any smartphone. Extending to about 100cm (3 ft) you get that extra reach to capture a selfie that might dodge the delete button. Of course you can also use it to get a vantage point in crowds, but where's the narcissism in that? €9 from red5.co.uk

BioLite
KettleCharge BioLite has an ever-expanding range of smart, eco-friendly gadget-charging camp stoves to which it's now added the KettleCharge. It mightn't look like a conventional kettle – which it's not – but it does the water-boiling bit perfectly on any open flame. The bonus is, using Biolite's thermoelectric technology, it delivers up to 10W of power to a built-in USB port as the kettle gets going. That's enough to charge your smartphone, tablet and more. The handle houses a display which readies you for charging and alerts if the water's low. And you can have a refreshing cuppa while your gadget is enjoying its own pick-me-up. $149.95 from biolitestove.com, available from Sept
