1 Olympus TG-Tracker Camera Whereas sales for standalone cameras are generally in decline, one corner of the market remains bullish: action cameras. GoPro is still the default for the niche, but now there's lots of competition. Olympus's new TG-Tracker crosses the action cam with the ABC watch, adding a barometer, compass and accelerometer to GPS sensors, so all your footage is fully tracked and logged in every dimension. Oh, that footage is full 4K, and its camera body is super-tough straight out of the box, waterproof, drop-proof, dust-proof. $350 from getolympus.com
2 Onotes Cyrano Scent Machine The ability of smell to trigger memories and conjure up moods is familiar to us all. Now this most primal analogue of senses is getting the digital treatment. Cyrano from Onotes is a "scent machine", comprising what it calls a "speaker" that can play scents almost like they're sounds. The rechargeable Cyrano unit takes scent cartridges that it releases against a sort of smell playlist you control via an app. So programme it for the journey to work or the hotel bedroom to relax, stimulate, calm as needed. $150 from onotes.com
3 Netatmo Welcome security camera Netatmo's Welcome camera has been launched with a specific selling point: integrated face-recognition software. The idea is that the Welcome sits house-watching while you're away, with software designed to recognise who is friend and who's foe when they come into view. You can programme a list of family and friends, control the alerts sent to your phone, and have the camera disable automatically for particular faces. The footage is sent to the cloud via your home Wi-Fi.€199 from netatmo.com, the app is free
