MEXICO CITY – Violence at a prison in Matamoros, a city that borders Brownsville, Texas, killed 20 people and wounded 12 others, authorities said on Saturday.

The violence broke out in the morning after an altercation between two inmates, the government of Tamaulipas state said in a statement. Many Mexican prisons are overcrowded and plagued by violence linked to the country’s powerful drug cartels. – (Reuters)
