A court was told yesterday that a horse dealer lost £6,500 during a visit to the Ballinasloe Horse Fair in Co Galway when his trousers was stolen from a bedroom in a guest house.

Judge James O'Sullivan was told the horse dealer from Co Down left his bedroom window open when he went to bed. When he awoke in the morning, there was no trace of the trousers, containing £6,500, which he had left on the back of a chair.

Trevor Purdy, of Clonrosse Park, Coolock, Dublin, admitted stealing the man's money from the trousers at Ballinasloe Court. Stated to be already serving an 18 month sentence, he received a six month concurrent sentence from Judge O'Sullivan.
