A woman who is severely brain damaged and who has been in hospital for 15 years, since suffering a heart attack hours after giving birth to a healthy baby, has secured €650,000 in settlement of a High Court action.

Christine Fay (52) is being cared for at Peamount Hospital in Dublin. Ms Fay, through her brother Gerard, Bohernabreena, Co Dublin, sued the Coombe hospital, Dublin, over alleged negligence in her care and treatment there in 1996.

The claims were denied.
