A printer who told a court he was struck on the back by a heavy bag which fell off a speeding fire engine has withdrawn his claim against Dublin Corporation for £30,000 damages.

The Circuit Court president, Mr Justice Smyth, dismissed the action with costs against the claimant, Mr Gavin Corcoran, Lissen Glen, Phibsboro, Dublin, when he was told midway through the case Mr Corcoran would not be proceeding. This followed cross-examination by Mr Paul Coffey, counsel for the local authority, who said he would be producing an independent witness who saw the bag fall without hitting anyone.
