Activist identifies attackers

Ankara - Turkey's leading human rights campaigner yesterday identified two men as the ones who had shot and seriously wounded him earlier this month. "The police brought the accused to Akin Birdal in hospital where he identified them," a Human Rights Association official, Mr Meral Beker, said. "Then they came here and our personnel also identified them." Two men walked past staff at the IHD's central office in Ankara on May 12th, shot Mr Birdal six times and then fled.
